Smart Segments, a unique and popular feature of Nansen 2, has received a lot of positive and constructive feedback from our users. Today, we're excited to announce some new updates to further enhance its capabilities.
These improvements will help you better identify "alpha wallets” that match your specific criteria and uncover their onchain activities, making it even more powerful than before.
TL;DR
- Introducing 5 new conditions:
- Top Holders of Token, First Holders of Token, Top Holders of NFT, First Holders of NFT, and an option to Exclude Labels
- Enhanced "Holds Token" filters with options to specify the USD value and select a timeframe for more targeted searches
- Add Condition Group: Now supports both “AND” and “OR” logic for more flexible searches
- Improved Smart Segment insights: Displays wallet balances and labels in each segment

How to use these new features?
Let's dive into the segment conditions and explore the cool ways you can use them, one by one!
To start, simply go to the Smart Segments page, and click “+ New Segment”.
Holds Token
We've enhanced the "Holds Token" condition with new filters, thanks to your feedback. Now, for memecoins or tokens with enormous supply and a low USD price, you can conveniently filter by USD value instead of token amount.
Additionally, you can now choose a specific timeframe to see which addresses held the tokens during that period. For instance, with $PEPE hitting its all time high in the past few days, we want to see who are the top holders during this period that have benefited the most.
Click "Save," and you'll find 310 wallets meet this criteria. Of course, many of the top holders are exchanges, and since their addresses don’t provide much actional insights in this case, now you can filter them out.
Exclude Label
Next step, add an additional condition that excludes addresses such as MEV bots, contracts, and exchanges, so we will get the individual onchain token holder addresses only.
We can see that all the top wallets are worth multi-millions at the moment, likely thanks to $PEPE. A few addresses caught our attention, such as “ThisWillMakeYouLoveAgain” on OpenSea.
They spent over $430k+ in the last 4 months acculating $PEPE and hasn’t sold any yet, currently their $PEPE holdings is worth over $26M!
Finding addresses like this helps you understand their ROI and potentially selling pressure. While it's uncertain, it's still worth setting up an alert for such activity.
You can also further refine this segment by adding additional conditions such as $MOG holders, to surface wallets that are good at buying, or holding a substantial amount of memecoins.
In the screenshot below, we can see huck.eth, aka dimethyltryptamine.eth, the legend who spent only 0.125 ETH ($251) to buy 5.9T PEPE last year, currently still holds 2T PEPE worth $14.5M.
Another good use case here is to check if holders of a token above certain size (say >$5,000) also hold another newer token in the same category/sector. For example, BLOBS is another memecoin on Ethereum that had a phenomenal price surge recently but there’s only one wallet that owns $5k+ PEPE also holds over $1k+ BLOBS, seems unlikely that $PEPE holders are as interested in $BLOBS, as of now.
When we look at people who own PEPE, MOG, and BITCOIN, we see much more overlap here. Such as @artchick, who often talks about memecoins on X, has a portfolio worth around $6 million. ETH is her largest holding, making up nearly 50% of its value, but the rising prices of her other tokens, such as MOG, PEPE, and BITCOIN, now account for about 44.5%.
Top Holders of Token
This new condition allows you to spotlight the top holders (up to 1000) of one or more tokens you're interested in.
There are only 8 wallets that are top holders of both PEPE, MOG, and BITCOIN, if you also own these tokens, consider setting up Smart Alerts to their wallets and get notified when they sell, or if buy other memecoins.
First Holders of Token
This is a very powerful feature to identify early buyers (up to 1000) of:
- A particular token, or
- A few tokens within a specific sector, this may require some fine-tuning and adjustment of the conditions, but it's a valuable effort! For instance, first buyers of memecoins, AI, DePIN or gaming tokens
In this example, we found 2 wallets that are the first buyers of both $wTAO and $WLD, worth adding them to your Smart Alerts if you’re interested in AI tokens.
Top Holders of NFT
Similar to “Top Holders of Token”, you can use this condition to identify the top wallets holding a specific NFT or several NFTs.
Such as the top 50 holders of Pudgy Penguins, Lil Pudgys, and Pudgy Rogs. There are 6 matching wallets. Note that their net worth calculation currently excludes NFTs, meaning the value of their NFT portfolio is higher than what’s shown here.
First Holders of NFT
Just like “First Holders of Token”, use this condition to discover the first (up to 1000) holders of an NFT collection, or multiple NFT collections.
You can further refine this by including token holders in your analysis too. For example, our PM Dan has shared a tip that since there’s often association between PEPE and Milady, we can verify this by identifying wallets that first holders of both.
Add Condition Group
Now you can create condition groups with both “AND” and “OR” logic for more flexible searches.
In the PEPE and Milady holders example above, you can also create a more advanced segment, such as the first 1000 holders of both PEPE and BITCOIN, who have traded either Milady or TEST (Remilio Babies).
Last but not least, you can easily edit the conditions now! Simply click into a condition, AND or OR option, then make your adjustments, and click “Save” to generate new results.
Remember to check out the Profiler for these segments as a next step to discover interesting insights, including their collective holdings, counterparties, transactions, and more.
As a reminder, you can also apply filters based on your Smart Segments within dashboards like Token God Mode → Balances, Top Transactions, or Smart Money Token Holdings.
